important work describing over 1,000 species in 9 families, including the Hesperiidae and 64 endemic
species. A number of new taxa are included, these are well treated with the holotype and sometimes both the
allotype and paratype being photographed. There are all in all 67 colour plates and a 179 genitalia
drawings, both male and female. For each species the following are provided: a brief description, a general
distribution, the Tanzanian distribution, a short account of distribution and ecology and the larval food
plant where known. Kielland has divided Tanzania up into 11 faunistic zones for ease of discussion and
supported this with a series of tables delineating the species occuring in each. The introductory chapters
include sections on: dangers to the fauna of Tanzania, trapping charaxes and other butterflies, butterfly
